Carestream Health Awarded $25 Million Country-Wide RIS PACS Project At Israel’s Clalit Health Services

New Digital Systems Aimed at Improving Quality of Care at World’s Second Largest HMO Serving Nearly Four Million People

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Nov. 30 — Clalit Health Services Hospital has selected Carestream Health's state-of-the-art healthcare IT solution. The PACS, RIS and central archiving solution will be deployed across all Clalit’s hospitals and imaging centers in Israel by Algotec, a fully owned subsidiary of Carestream Health, and provide more than 1,400 sites with access to the system. Implementation is scheduled to begin in early 2009.

At Clalit, the PACS, RIS and central archiving solution (CARESTREAM Information Management Solutions or IMS) will manage more than five million procedures annually. The ability to centrally manage patient information at such magnitude, while simultaneously allowing real-time access from anywhere, will improve care and increase efficiency for the Clalit organization.

“The system allows advanced communication between physicians and patients, thereby improving our quality of care,” said Eli Defes, CEO, Clalit Health Services. “Clinicians receive all relevant patient information at their desktop, allowing for faster, more accurate diagnosis.”

Carestream Health’s PACS, RIS and IMS enable receiving, storing, processing, distributing and viewing of medical images, reports and related data. The system also provides advanced imaging tools for orthopedic, mammography, cardiology and oncology applications.

“We are looking forward to working with Clalit to implement a medical imaging and information infrastructure that will enable this premier healthcare provider to realize the many benefits of an all-digital workflow,” said Carestream Health’s Chief Executive Officer Kevin J. Hobert.

Dr. Ziv Rosenbaum, Director of the Medical Technology Center for Clalit, added: "As the second largest HMO worldwide, Clalit was looking for a multi-site, multi-domain enterprise imaging management solution. We needed patient-centric imaging records and enterprise level workflow management. We found that solutions from Carestream Health best met our needs. We are very excited to collaborate with Carestream Health in implementing and developing its cutting-edge solutions." Dr. Arnon Makori, Clalit’s PACS project manager also commented: “I believe Carestream Health’s unique architecture (SuperPACS) will facilitate and hasten the complex country-wide deployment in our hospitals and community imaging centers.”

Clalit Health Services delivers care through a nationwide network of 14 hospitals, 39 imaging centers, 1,400 clinics, 400 pharmacies, 37 children’s health centers and 32 women’s health centers.

“The integrated RIS/PACS architecture will enable information to flow smoothly among caregivers,” said Elad Benjamin, General Manager, Healthcare Information Solutions, Carestream Health. “With information managed seamlessly across multiple sites, the system provides clinicians a single, integrated toolset for diagnosis -- regardless of their location.”
